About

Come learn about game design and dream up new games!

Discover the world of today's game design through a panel and workshop with innovative game designers including Kyle Gordon (Portfolio & Strategy — PlayStation Studios), T.L. Taylor (Professor of Comparative Media Studies; Director — MIT Game Lab), and Frank Pinto (Game Design Educator — Innovators for Purpose). The panel will focus on the role of identity, narrative, and community in driving the popularity of contemporary games.

It will be followed by a hands-on workshop and networking event with other high schoolers and professionals with a passion for play. Participants will learn about the design learning goal of “iteration” by collaboratively experimenting with new rules for old games.

The workshop will be in collaboration with Scot Osterweil, a research scientist and creative consultant to the Education Arcade and Game Lab at MIT, and designer of award-winning games. During the workshop-hour, students from Innovators for Purpose will also be demoing one of their new games.

Audience

This event is aimed at high schoolers and their teachers, but we encourage all to join.

Perks

Snacks will be provided, and students will get to work with game designers and like-minded peers. High Schoolers working with Innovators for Purpose will be demoing their game, “Uncover,” and looking for feedback from you!
