Collaborative Augmented Reality-Guided Mud Formwork for Optimized Structural Construction in Remote Areas

About

Rodrigo Gallardo, graduate student in Architecture, aims to develop a collaborative augmented reality (AR)-guided workflow for optimized structural construction using mud formwork to improve housing in remote areas of Latin America.

Solution & Impact

Based on initial findings that AR-guided techniques can improve construction, the study will explore how AR devices such as Microsoft HoloLens could support unskilled workers in using local materials to create sustainable formwork.

Features

  • Enabling remote workers to visualize and interact with construction tasks
  • Optimizing structural construction of mud formwork
  • Using augmented reality technology to support underserved and rural communities
