In this short “Design + ...” video, Paola Antonelli—senior curator for Architecture and Design, and director of R&D at the Museum of Modern Art—shares her perspective on design as a deeply educational and social practice. Whether working on infrastructure or everyday objects, designers operate in teams and in dialogue with the world. “In the future of design education, I would like to see more nourishment of curiosity and experimentation,” says Antonelli.

Antonelli's work investigates design in all its forms, from architecture to video games, often expanding its reach to include overlooked objects and practices. Her exhibitions, lectures, and writings contemplate design’s intersection and interaction with other fields (from technology and biology to popular culture) and with life—that of individuals, communities, all species, and all planets. She explores these various themes in the podcast “Design Emergency,” which she co-hosts with design critic Alice Rawsthorn.
