What is Designing for Sustainability?

This program, co-created by MIT and the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), engages joint scientific research by multidisciplinary teams at both institutes, at the intersection of sustainable design, innovation, and digital technologies.

Funding grants range between $50,000 and $200,000 for one year, awarded in September 2023.

Call for Applications

Each Principal Investigator (from MIT or HPI) can propose a project in collaboration with a complementary research team at the partner institution. Design is understood broadly to include design research and thinking, design in the field of computer science, and design in entrepreneurship.

Proposals are due June 1, 2023.
