The Program
Gain hands-on experience in impact-driven design innovation and product development through a new collaborative IAP studio with MITdesignX and the Atelier LUMA research and development team in the historic city of Arles, in the south of France.
Atelier LUMA is the research design laboratory at LUMA Arles - an interdisciplinary campus of art, science, design and research in the south of France. Atelier LUMA brings together designers, engineers, scientists, and experts from diverse fields to explore the impact potential of natural materials and industrial waste. Through their research and experimentation they seek sustainable solutions in the Mediterranean environment.
MITdesignX is the innovation and entrepreneurship program at the MIT Morningside Academy for Design. Through courses, studios and a venture accelerator program, MITdesignX provides the curriculum and resources to turn ideas and research into sustainable ventures, products, services and processes.
The MITdesignX LUMA Design Innovation Studio is a dynamic and fast-paced week to scale and deploy projects stemming on LUMA’s six years of research.
Participants will collaborate with LUMA researchers and MIT faculity in transdisciplinary teams, leveraging MITdesignX tools and methods to assess the feasibility and viability of materials, products, and services selected from LUMA's development pipeline. Through interactive activities such as needs analysis, stakeholder mapping, user engagement, prototyping, and business model development, you will refine solution designs. By testing and iterating on these ideas, you'll gain valuable insights to transform them into scalable, impactful ventures.
