About

Are you organizing an event around design? We may help.

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for all within MIT to apply for support to elevate existing and new design initiatives.

MAD is dedicated to celebrating design in its many forms, and to maximizing the impact of design activities already taking place across the Institute.

We invite departments, student organizations, research centers, and individuals within the MIT community to submit proposals for design-related events and projects. Whether you are planning a conference, workshop series, an exhibition, speaker series, or any other event involving design, we would love to hear from you!

Benefits & Requirements

AWARDS
You may receive one-time support in various forms, such as limited financial resources, collaboration around event communications, and access to a network of designers at MIT. Please note:

  • Financial awards may not exceed $1,500 per application. Award amount is determined based on needs and proponents should provide as much detail as possible while being aware that other sources of funding may be required.
  • Our collaboration in event planning is limited to conceptual assistance and to helping applicants connect with other designers at MIT, and it doesn't include taking care of the logistics of the event.
  • We ask awardees to mention MAD's support and include the MAD logo in their communications as well as during the event. Post-event feedback (including information such as attendance) is greatly appreciated.

SELECTION CRITERIA
In an effort to encourage crossdisciplinarity, events serving multiple audiences or units will be prioritized.

While “design” should be a clear component of the event, MAD accommodates many dimensions of design across fields, including processes, and artifacts.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

  • Fall events: August 1
  • January / IAP events: October 1
  • Spring events: December 1
